Looking for free software to use to convert text to index cards with the keyword tags?
I have hundreds of index cards with ideas for a textbook. Each card contains maybe 3-10 lines of text. Each card also has a number of keywords (such as text can relate to many different chapters). So an example might be "Offer your colleagues a hug", the keyword may is "physical", "kinesthetic", "sexual". What I need is some software where I can input all the text and is associated keywords and then do a search by keyword to bring up the relevant cards. I know it can be done in Excel, but it would be messy and instead I want some free software designed for this purpose. Any suggestions? Thank you! Thanks to John T for his answer. I need to add The software IS needed to hold keywords, number of keywords * not * be in the text (they are more like abstract categories). Also, I do not want to do it online, I would like a piece of software to save everything on my harddrive. Thank you!
Probably any decent database program will do it. You is really no need to worry about indexing the key words for finding a good job should be able to read the notes for each word you need. Databases typically have data and text fields. Fielda data is the easiest to search but they have a limit of 255 characters. Text fields are typically contains around pages of text, but they require a special task of finding. I have not been involved in the database for years, but a program like FileMaker is certainly do the job. It is not free. Unless someone here comes up with a specific name, try http://www.download.com Enter a search database as your search pattern. They have millions of shareware programs and a lot are free. If you're doing on the Internet, there are dozens of scripts in http://www.hotscripts.com Ypu can scan each card and use an eye character reader OCR program that comes with scanner to save a lot of type.
