My, how the digital instances are a-changin'. We're downsizing to tiny screens, friending the world, considering in 140 characters and downloading -- dare I say -- "billions and billions" of apps designed to make everything we do simpler, quicker and a lot more convenient (well, we think). And so, only nights into 2010, I decided to kick off the year with an Ad Age column dedicated to the most suitable buzzwords to describe our curious stampede to the social mass media and mobile future. * SPURNED Mass media: The same as it seems, earned mass media that goes horribly negative, invades otherwise pristine search results or bleeds into conventional mass media. Poor customer service is truly a top driver of "spurned mass media."

* MOBILENECKING: The alarming tendency to have our necks titled down or shifted sideways -- ever glued to our mobile unit. This anyplace, anyplace epidemic is increasingly frequent in autos, airplanes and crosswalks. Closely related to phrase "Eyevoidance," where no one looks at anybody anymore.

* JACK RIPPER: The device warriors who hog outlets anywhere they could discover them -- within the airport, via the USB port of a colleague's computer, even a restaurant reservation desk. They get a charge from the charge.

* BRAND TEASE: A customer who "friends" or "fans" a brand, only to never return for any second date. Manufacturers feed the cycle by forgetting to court the consumer with engaging, fascinating or sustaining content material or value.

* APPTOSTERONE: The mojo that fuels extreme "mine's bigger/better" conversation about mobile apps. "Dude, you received Bump, but I've received FourSquare." Marketing techies are loaded with Apptosterone.

* TWITSTOP: A bathroom detour from a meeting or discussion in order to check e-mail, Twitter or the latest and largest by way of an app. (Swear about the Bible, I do not do this ... but I'm told lots of others do.)
