Ufc: a Victorious Rampage
Fans of mixed martial arts were privileged to bear witness to a spectacularly epic clash last September 7 at the O2 Arena found in London, England. Quinton “Rampage” Jackson claimed a historic victory over Pride Champion Dan Henderson, as the two warriors battled it out during the light heavyweight unification bout for UFC 75. By the fifth round, a unanimous decision from the judges cinched Rampage’s stunning win, to the thundering ovation from a sold-out audience of more than 16,000 MMA devotees. His triumph in the match cemented his place as the still-undisputed light heavyweight champion of MMA history, securing the light heavyweight titles of both the PRIDE FC and the UFC.
During the early initial stages of the fight, Henderson was quick to set a tense pace. The former Greco-Roman wrestler and Olympic athlete constantly kept up the pressure on his opponent Jackson. Yet by the third round, however, Rampage began to press his own counterattack of skilled grappling against the aggressive Henderson. In the days preceding the duel, Jackson spent most of his training time up on the elevated, high-altitude location of Big Bear, California. During his ensuing confrontation with the Greco-Roman titan, Jackson presented a superb balance of skill and stamina, his breathing and footwork honed to disciplined rhythm and in tune with his attacks.
Jackson’s own grappling was deemed superior to Henderson’s, as the warrior known as Rampage gradually gained the upper hand from the third to fifth rounds. By the fifth round, the two combatants were grappling against the fence while exchanging solid blows and punches. At one point Henderson brought down Jackson to the mat, yet Rampage refused to stay down and struggled his way back onto his feet. As the skirmish wore down, much of it was spent with both fighters still standing. Jackson cited his knowledge in jiu-jitsu as one of his secret advantages, stating that most people weren’t aware of his proficiency in that particular martial art.
